2008 AET Pop/Jazz/Swing Holiday Concert

The 2008 Pop/Jazz/Swing Holiday Concert will be on Sunday, December 14th, 2008 at the gorgeous Ganz Hall at Roosevelt University (430 S. Michigan Ave. 7th Floor, Chicago, IL 60605).

Concert Schedule will be as follows:
5:00 - 5:45: Student stage rehearsal, Parents socialize at lounge.
6:00 - 6:45: Concert Performance I
6:45 - 7:00: Scale Race
7:00 - 7:45: Concert Performance
II7:45 - 8:00: Award Ceremony

This Pop/Jazz/Swing Concert is to encourage kids to explore the popular era of music, that is exciting, stylish and relaxing. Unlike classical music, popular music has simpler notes to grasp but requires an immersed spirit to perform. Your child's AET teacher will be selecting interesting pieces for your child in the next week or two and add the performance preparation as part of the weekly lessons.

A Scale Race will be in this concert again. If your child is under age 10, he/she is encouraged to participate! Contestants will come to stage and play the C scale with their LEFT hand as many times as they can in 30 seconds. Scale Race is a great way to motivate kids to get their fingers fast; therefore, be prepared to play fast pieces down the road.

In addition, we'd like to encourage each child to anounce their little show themselves. Each student will fill out a card, saying "My name is _____. I'm going to play a Pop (or Swing or Blues or Jazz) song for you all today, called______. Enjoy!" They can either read their card on stage or have our MC to announce it for them on their behalf. AET Music for Children hosts two concerts every year.

We believe regular performances are a great way to teach kids:
- playing better quality songs
- practicing their instruments more
- building their skills to be confident/focused at spotlight
- appreciating music through other kids' performances
- most of all, sharing their music with others

As usual, we will be producing a DVD for the concert and give a copy to each student. A custom trophy/certificate with their name and their current level will be awarded to the student at completion. Students are encouraged to dress up. You are welcome to take photos and videos on your own. The concert brochure will have each student's headshot on it, so please be sure to register and send updated photos by December 1st:
